Several years ago, I paid a lot of money for just two words:
Elegant Ease
These words were given to me by Carrie McCarthy as part of my Style Statement session, a fascinating process where I answered a bunch of interesting questions which are supposed to reveal the core of my personal style.
Although I loved the concept, at first I was a bit underwhelmed. But over time, I realized those two little words could allow me to make better decisions about not only what clothes and accessories to buy, but also how I decorate my home, the way I arrange my office space, and the aesthetics of my business website and promotional materials.
Then it dawned on me. The simplicity of my Style Statement was the key to its value. It was easy to remember and it fit me like a glove, so it was always easy to use and could be applied in an amazingly large number of situations. In short, it allowed me to make better decisions and truly live my own unique style.
So, the analytical businessperson in me started thinking… how could this concept be applied to one’s professional life? What about having something similar for your career? For your business?
I thought about these questions for several years. I coached a lot of people and looked for common threads. I studied many different ways of assessing someone’s core professional style. But most assessment tools tell you about your personality or attempt to give you a list of specific careers you should consider. This wasn’t what I or my clients were looking for.
Then I stumbled upon a non-predictive, objective hand analysis process developed by Richard Unger, founder of the International Institute of Hand Analysis. In 1979, Richard developed a system of identifying an individual’s inherent traits, strengths, and mission after analyzing the hands and fingers of over 12,000 people. More than 200,000 people have had their fingerprints analyzed using Richard’s system of fingerprint analysis.
I tried it with myself, friends, family, and clients – and it worked. I realized this was the key to translating the Style Statement concept into something that worked for my business clients.
This is how Success Statement was born.
Now for a little about me…
I’m a hand analyst, certified life and business coach, hypnotherapist, and writer who has over 20 years of experience helping people turn their goals into reality. I love to learn about and analyze people and I have an uncanny ability to see the best in people. I am nosy by nature, and understanding what makes people tick is my passion – hence the reason I thrive as a coach and hand analyst.
Before becoming a coach and hand analyst, I spent almost two decades in the corporate world. I held leadership and consulting roles with large and small companies for almost 20 years, including Electronic Data Systems (EDS), Berkshire Hathaway, Siebel Systems, Johnson & Johnson, and Oracle Corporation. I ended my corporate career after spending two and a half years as Vice President of Marketing and Products for a social networking company.
Personally, I like good food, good wine, well stocked bookstores, art and independent films, and spending time in and around the beautiful and varied San Francisco Bay Area. I’m a geek at heart, so I am a card carrying member of American Mensa, an organization that provides an intellectual and social environment for high IQ individuals.
In addition to writing this blog, I am available for Success Statement consultations, leadership, career, and transition coaching, speaking engagements, and corporate training. I also work with a select group of individuals and corporations on a retainer basis. I meet with clients in San Jose, California and all over the world via in person and telephone consultations.
